READING THE NEWS

Q: How often is the news updated?
A: Go-Jamaica is updated seven days a week. There are just two times a year when the print edition isn't published (Christmas and Easter) when the site is not updated.

Q: I keep getting old news that never changes. What is going on?
A: Since the news is updated daily, it is most likely that you have bookmarked a particular day's news. The news for each day changes to reflect the date of the edition. If you happen to bookmark the news for the day of February 28, 1999, for example, your bookmark will always return you to that particular date. To make sure that you are seeing the most current news possible, point your browser to the Go-Jamaica home page, at http://www.go-jamaica.com, and set your bookmark from there.

Q: How do I set Go-Jamaica as my home page?
A: From Internet Explorer, follow these instructions:
1. Type www.go-jamaica.com in the Address box to move to the Go-Jamaica home page.
2. From the Menu bar select TOOLS…INTERNET OPTIONS
3. Click on the box labelled USE CURRENT…OK

From Netscape, follow these instructions:
1. Type www.go-jamaica.com in the Address box to move to the Go-Jamaica home page
2. From the dropdown menu select EDIT…PREFERENCES
3. Click on the box labelled USE CURRENT PAGE…OK

NEWS BY E-MAIL

Q: How do I receive News Headlines by E-Mail Service?
A: Go to the Go-Jamaica home page, http://www.go-jamaica.com, and select NEWS BY E-MAIL from the site map at the left side of your computer screen. On the NEW USER SIGN-UP PAGE, enter your name, e-mail address, and chosen password. Please take note of the box that labelled HTML that is check-marked. This means that you will receive your daily news headlines in an HTML format that resembles a web page, complete with graphics and active links. If your e-mail software does not support HTML, please remove the check-mark from the box so that you will receive a text-based message instead. Click on the ADD USER button when ready.

You will receive a confirmation message to the e-mail address that you have specified. To activate your account, you must reply to the message, including it in your reply, in order to confirm your desire to receive the daily news service. If your e-mail software is not automatically set to include the original message in the reply-to, please copy it into the reply.

Q: Why do I have to confirm the e-mail service I just signed up for?
A: This measure is taken to ensure that you are not unwillingly added to any mailing lists that you do not wish to receive.

Q: How do I unsubscribe to the News Headlines by E-Mail Service?
A: To change your account preferences or unsubscribe visit
http://www.jamaica-gleaner.com/cgi-bin/gleaner/edituser.cgi. You will find this URL and your account information located at the bottom of the news headlines that you receive each day.

Q: I signed up for the News Headlines by E-Mail Service and never received a confirmation message. What happened?
A: Some ISPS and some e-mail services do not receive e-mail newsletters, fearing they are spams. Unfortunately, Go-Jamaica is not in a position to influence change in this regard. If you are not able to receive the daily newsletter to your current e-mail solution, you might try opening a different web-based account through Hotmail or Yahoo for better results.

CHAT ROOM

Q: How do I use the chat room?
A: Jump to the Go-Jamaica chat room login in page from the Go-Jamaica home page site map, or directly by pointing your browser to http://www.go-jamaica.com/chat/index.html. Wait just a bit until the login box appears. Type in the nickname of your choice and press the CONNECT button. A separate browser window will launch which places you directly in the foyer of the chatroom. The chatroom is best accessed using Internet Explorer 4.0 or higher, or Netscape Communicator 4.0 or higher.

Q: I am in the chat room. Now what do I do?
A: When you enter the chatroom, you are in the Go-Jamaica Foyer. You may jump into a conversation if you like, or you may move to another room. To begin conversation, type your message in the white dialogue box at the bottom of the window, and click on the SEND button. To move to another room, Select the ROOMS tab on the right side of your browser window to change to a list of rooms available for entry. Double click on the room of your choice.

Q: Some people in the chat room have cool logos next to their names. How do I get one?
A: You can make changes to your profile, including selecting from a variety of name logos, by selecting the SETTINGS button.

Q: Is it true that I can create my own chat room?
A: Yes. Members are welcome to create private chat rooms. On the ROOMS tab, click the NEW button and fill in the boxes as required. People often use this feature to hold private conversations. Go-Jamaica reserves the right to remove all private rooms.

Q: I can't believe it! I have just been kicked out of the chat room! How come?
A: Go-Jamaica is a news and information site that is read by people of all ages and backgrounds. If you were using profane language, or speaking in a way that our webmasters deemed to be generally offensive, you were removed from participation.
