USING
THE ARCHIVES
Q:
Can I search stories of The Gleaner on the Internet? How far back do the
archives go?
A: The Gleaner's electronic archives date back to October, 1998 and
are available for searching on Go-Jamaica.com. While use of the archives
is currently free, the cost of maintaining this growing collection of
data mandates that surcharges will be implemented in the near future to
ensure the availability of the past issues. There will be a maximum fee
of US$2.00 per article for this service, and monthly library cards will
offer good discount deals. Photographs, maps, graphics and illustrations
are not included with the stories. The full content of The Gleaner is
also available on commercial services such as Dialog's World Reporter.
For stories printed prior to October, 1998, contact the Library Services
Department of The Gleaner Company at (876) 922-3400.
Q:
What type of content can I find on Go-Jamaica.com that I won't find in
the print edition of The Gleaner?
A: Go-Jamaica.com contains many of the articles that appear in the
daily edition of The Gleaner. It also contains news from The Star, as
well as articles from the online Go-LocalJamaica community web sites.
There are also times when breaking news stories are constantly updated
on the site that might appear in the next day's print edition in a different
form.
From
time to time Go-Jamaica launches the full text of indepth studies and
reports that are of national relevance. These are often too lengthy to
appear in print and are mounted online as a public service for general
interest.
Classified
ads from the Sunday edition appear in GleanerClassifieds.com, but display
ads that appear in print do not generally appear online unless purchased
by the advertiser. Comics, crossword puzzles and other syndicated content
will not be found online either.
USE
OF ONLINE MATERIALS AND COPYRIGHT CONCERNS
Q:
Can I download copies of articles and photos that appeared on Go-Jamaica?
A: As is the case with print articles, the content and photographs
that appear in the online edition are copyright protected. Requests to
use articles or photographs appearing online should be directed to Library
Services Department at (876) 922-3400. Many photographs are not available
in electronic format and must be purchased as hard copy prints.
